The Government LPS Mevarkal was started in 1910 as a Kudi Pallikkoodam. At first it was an one-teacher institution. Slowly, it was graduated into an full-blown LPS. In fact, by a quirky turn of administrative proceedings, the school has classes up to standard 5. Usually, lower primary schools offer classes up to standard 4 only.
In its glory years in 1970s and 1980s, the school boasted of student numbers well over 300. The number has fallen down in 1990s and 2000s. But the 2010s ushered in a change. The school has been consistently doing well in academics as well as inter-school competitions.
The student number is going up and new facilities are coming in. Now the school has about 130 students in classes 1-5, and about 70 kids in the newly started kindergarten division.
